There were presumably 5 different versions of that front designed out. Hundreds if not thousands of sketches ... and thats still the bumper they picked. What the fuck.

I think they seriously don’t know what their target demographic is anymore.

things I like about the 2019 Avalon:
301 HP, The avalon has been lacking in power for some time now
that Interior! right down the the included 2.1amp USB ports!
things I dont like about the 2019 Avalon:
everything else.
hate the exterior 110%, even dislike the wheels
lack of android auto, are you fucking serious Toyota?
Lack of AWD option (as far as I know)
I’d rather a 2019 Buck Lacosse for the money. I admit I have problems tho. But the Buick just looks nicer and has the features Id look for in this segment.

likewise, sir. I spent a lot less time on mine, though, yours is top quality, Toyota designers are probably studying it right now

Is this just a pendulum thing? So that when they come out with an electric version, and the grille is either normal or gone entirely, it will look
futuristic
?
2025 Avalon:

I think the train of thought was something along these lines:
Old upper middle class guys like doing BBQ’s
BBQ`s needs grilles for all the food
the bigger the grille, the more food/better cooked
the more/better food means the best experience
therefore old people love big grilles.
Wait for that Avalon George Forman edition.

Reminds me of Joan Rivers (RIP Joan). Every successive face lift became more traumatic to look at.

Jesus mother of fucking christ , that is the ugliest, and STUPIDEST thing I have ever seen.
You can clearly see that 90% of those “vents” are just solid plastic.
WOW.
![]() 04/24/2018 at 18:04 |

the fake vent to real vent ratio is stupid here.
Like 80/20

Hear you, Im not bothered by aggresive designs or whatever, but man this
feels like those 50's fins and chrome bumper era, just with huge
mouths.
Im betting on everyone recalling and mocking this design in the future.

well, they certainly are outgunning lexus on the grille department.
is this some sort of canibalization?

Even holes are too expensive for car manufacturers to give away. I learned that the car companies negotiate the part prices with vendors down to the cent ($23.45, not $23.73!). It’s adds up when you’re buying 750k of something.
I’m sure that by 2021, car makers will market fake grills and vents as features.
So then, they can segue into selling us plastic bodied cars too!
I mean what’s not to like about decieving our customers and their expectations?!
Afterall, any wood, leather or metal you see in your car is plastic already! So is the front bumper-grill, that’s not a grill. It’s all cheap plastic! PLASTIC!!!

I mean, I guess the leading edge of the hood kind of recalls the 4th gen Crown, but that’s about all I can say that’s positive.
Also, I may have posted this before, but I really think this might be Toyota’s inspiration:
I mean, we all know Toyota drivers are going to run into things - parking bollards, store fronts, their own garage doors, neighborhood children - so, why not make a car that looks as though the front end has already been obliterated straight from the factory? That way, when it happens for real, the difference will be less noticeable.

The 2019 grille looks like someone sliced it open with an electric knife and that’s what it looks like underneath. Eww.
